About Us
Supporting people as they return to their communities
New Vision Community Chaplaincy is a multi-faith charity supporting people as they transition from prison back into their communities.
We provide mentoring, pastoral care, advice, practical support and training to help prison leavers navigate the challenges they face following release.
Our work is based on compassion, dignity, respect and the belief that people should have access to the support they need as they rebuild their lives.
We work with people of all faiths and people of none, reflecting the diverse communities of Merseyside and the importance of respectful, collaborative working across faiths and communities.
WHY NEW VISION?
Support shouldn’t stop at the prison gate
New Vision Community Chaplaincy was established by individuals with extensive experience serving within the multi-faith chaplaincy teams at HMP Liverpool and HMP Altcourse.
Through their work within prison chaplaincy, our trustees have witnessed first-hand the positive impact that trusted relationships and compassionate support can have on individuals during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
Prison chaplaincies provide much more than spiritual support. They offer pastoral care, practical assistance, guidance, encouragement, training opportunities and, importantly, someone who is willing to listen. For many people in custody, these relationships can provide stability, hope and encouragement at a time when life may feel particularly uncertain.
However, when someone is released from prison, these trusted relationships and sources of support can often come to an end. This is the gap that New Vision Community Chaplaincy has been established to address.
WHAT WE DO
Practical support. Trusted relationships. Real opportunities.
For many prison leavers, returning to the community can be a difficult and uncertain experience. Some may have limited family or social support. Others may face homelessness, financial hardship, difficulties accessing healthcare, unemployment or strained relationships.
At the same time, they may need to meet probation requirements and make significant changes to their lifestyle and relationships.
For someone dealing with several of these challenges at once, the process of resettlement can be overwhelming. Without appropriate support, isolation and instability can make it considerably harder for people to maintain positive changes after release.
New Vision provides support designed around the individual and the circumstances they are facing.
Our work includes:
Mentoring – providing consistent, trusted support to help individuals navigate the transition from prison into community life.
Practical support – helping people deal with everyday challenges and access essential services and resources.
Advice and guidance – helping individuals understand their options, responsibilities and the support available to them.
Pastoral care – providing compassionate listening, encouragement and pastoral support during a significant period of change.
Training and development – helping people access education, training and opportunities to develop skills for the future.
Employment support – supporting individuals to explore pathways towards employment and greater independence.
Community connection – Helping people develop positive relationships, reduce isolation and become connected with supportive community networks.
FAITH & COMMUNITY
A multi-faith approach
Faith can play an important role in rehabilitation and resettlement. For many people, faith provides a source of hope, identity, belonging, encouragement and purpose. New Vision aims to ensure that prison leavers have the opportunity toaccess and practise their faith within the community, according to their own beliefs and choices.
At the same time, our support is available to people of all faiths and people of none.
New Vision reflects the multi-faith composition of Merseyside and seeks to create an environment where people from different faith traditions, as well as those with no religious belief, can work together respectfully and collaboratively.
We believe that communities are stronger when people understand, respect and support one another.
Our multi-faith approach enables us to draw on the experience, relationships and resources of diverse faith communities while keeping the needs and choices of each individual at the centre of our work.
